Information about Stamps (Philately)
First Day Covers with set are issued on the date of issue of a stamp and contain an envelope with the original stamps postmarked with a special rubber handstamp. These come together with a leaflet which explains the stamps in detail.
Postcards are enlarged illustrations of the original stamp. These are sold in mint or cancelled format. Postcards cancelled bear the original stamp with the first day of issue postmark.
Postal Cards are postcard format with the Europa stamps printed upon. These prints are valid for postage purposes. The cards are sold in mint or cancelled format for the duration of the exhibition they commemorate. Cancelled cards have the imprinted stamps postmarked with the exhibition’s special handstamp.
Philatelic Bureau Cards are 192mm x 105mm postcards. The first issue was on 01.01.01. as a result of the identical digits in the date postmarks. They will continue to be issued in this format until the year 2012, when the 12th card, reading 12.12.12., will complete this series.
Occasion Cards are issued to commemorate a special occasion during the year. The card will have an imprinted stamp valid for postage. The first in the series commemorated the Pope’s Visit in 2001. Cancelled cards have the imprinted stamps postmarked with a special rubber handstamp.
Maximum Cards are picture postcards bearing an illustration of the design on the stamp. These are sold in mint or cancelled format. Maximum cards cancelled bear the original stamp with the first day of issue postmark.
