Malta is renowned for its honey and boasts a long history of bee- keeping & honey- making. Proof of this lies in the name given to Malta by the Greeks- Melita, which derives from the Greek word Meli, meaninig honey.
The Maltese indigenous bee is typically black in colour and its honey is based on wild thyme in summer, carob & eucalyptus in autumn and wild flowers, like thistle and dandelion in spring.
