Evoking the nostalgia for a city-port culture in its hey day, etnikafe-Kabare Malti manages to capture for the first time in a limited issue on DVD, the passion and emotion of live experience in this 2005 concert held at the site of the ex-Barrakka Lift, Lascaris Wharf Valletta, Malta.
A full hour performance of some of etnika‘s latest up-beat and innovative repertoire based on Maltese folk and popular music traditions and featuring Malta’s most prominent musicians. Etnikafe includes all established etnika musicians plus guest performers including Il-Budaj, tambourine man It-Tommi, Toni tal-gebel , Salvu Gordamaina’s Village Brass Band and Alsion Galea.
From band marches and village stomps to sultry dream-weaving tunes, high powered percussion rhythms, evocative flamenco moves and highly strung folk chants, etnika’s Port Cabaret is a document of Malta’s emerging folk and ethnic music scene as well as of its own ever adapting folk music traditions.
Renowned for their innovative and energy packed performances blending traditional instruments, folk melodies and song in a contemporary Mediterranean blend, etnika have received local and international acclaim along with a responsibility of creatively portraying folk music traditions with a twist.
