Malta Television was inaugurated in September 1962. Initially, broadcasting licences were granted to the national television station (PBS), two major political parties (Super 1 & Net TV) and the Catholic Church. More stations followed and there is now a 
proliferation of privately-run radio stations and several TV channels.
During the last years a number of popular television series and entertainment programmes have been produced and broadcasted on these television stations. This category include popular sitcoms such as - Simpatici, Dun Benit, Il-Madonna Tac-Coqqa, Il-Principal, Is-Sur Gawdenz, Angli and Undercover as well as other videos and films produced by local artists. These sitcoms and series are available in DVD and VHS.
