Artist Comments
Ceramics is a very tactile art form with limitless possibilities, after working with the medium for many years I still feel like a wide eyed child at Christmas when I open a new bag of clay. I am fascinated by the textured surfaces, variety of colours and firing techniques that bring an otherwise dull mud like substance to life in such a permanent way. I work with stoneware, porcelain, paperclay and earthenware enjoying the characteristics that each clay has. I mix all of my own glaze colours preferring not to buy them ready made so that I can achieve the precise colours I need. My firing ranges from oxidization in an electric kiln to pit firing and raku firing.
My first love will always be wheel thrown objects, although, hand built wall hangings and sculptures are now a regular and increasing feature of my work.
