Information about Other Festa
The long Maltese summers are also characteristic with the festa (feast) time. Once a year, all Maltese villages celebrate one or two parish patron saint's day. Each week-long festa is held at differing times and in summer, there's at least a couple of festas every weekend. It is an important event to the local people and a time for great celebration.
The Maltese Islands are well known for their splendid fireworks, street decorations together with the marci (festa music) from town bands. The celebrations themselves end in the grand finale of a firework display. Along the way, there is plenty of brass band music, peeling of bells and street life.
Stall holders selling food, toys and local nougat are in abundance, and all the local bars are overflowing into the streets with revelling customers. A statue of the saint is carried by local men through the streets and into the church.
